Salvador, Bahia



Salvador was founded as São Salvador da Bahia de Todos os Santos.
 It is a Brazilian city, the capital of Bahia and Brazil's first capital. 





Salvador has more than 2.6 million inhabitants, the largest city in the Northeast, the third most populous of Brazil and the eighth most populous in Latin American. It is surpassed by São Paulo, Mexico City, Buenos Aires, Lima, Bogota, Rio de Janeiro and Santiago.


It has 3,574,804 inhabitants surveyed in 2010 by the Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics (IBGE),  that the makes it the third most populous Northeast city, the seventh in Brazil and one of the 120 largest in the world.


It is the first colonial capital of Brazil, the city is one of the oldest in America. For a long time it was formerly called "Bahia" and "Bahia city," including by residents of the state and appears under that name or as "Salvador da Bahia" in order to differentiate them from other Brazilian cities of the same name.



 It is the economic center of the state, Salvador is also an exporting port, industrial center, administrative and tourist place.  In addition to businesses, the city also hosts many events, organizations and institutions such as the Federal University of Bahia (best in the Northeast and 16 in Latin America, Brazil's most improved city in the last two years,  and the School of Management of the Brazilian Army.
