Cancer, how can we fight it?

What is Cancer?
How can we fight it?

TEXT:

Stepping into the Ring

introduction
You guys get ready! Best selling author, performer and motivational speaker, Nicole Johnson! has been playing to sold out crowds of about three million women over the past five years and is here today to perform her incredibly appropriate piece entitled Stepping Into the ring!
Please welcome Nicole Johnson!

Nicole Johnson:
I just came in because I found out or not that I actually need to see you.

Doctor:
We have to do a biopsy.  There are wonderful prostheses available.

Daughter:
Mommy, are you going to be ok! Mommy!!!

Nicole Johnson:
Finding out you have cancer is like going to sleep in your own bed and waking up in a boxing ring. Your standing toe to toe with the heavyweight champion of the world, the crowd is looking on,  your in your pajamas and you don´t even know how to thow a punch.

At first I was angry, and I mean angry, and people don´t like you to be angry but it´s totally appropriate! I was just punching, dodging, bobbing and weaving, punch, punch and punch!  But there was nothing to hit! In the inside I know that I´m all I ever was, but hello, you live in a world were the outside matters! I´ve never had great breasts but I had them, and I didn´t want to live without them. That´s untrue, I didn´t want to live without them, but I didn´t want to die with them either. I realized that I was in the ring with an enemy far bigger than cancer. This is a deep dark enemy that hides underneath cancer. The kind of enemy that just whispers in your ear! “you are totally alone, and your gonna die!”

The big “D”, it is far worse than the big “C”, despair!! If you don´t realize you are fighting despair, then it will just attack you repeatedly and you will go down! And for the first time in my whole ordeal, I was thankful because I realized that as bad as physical cancer is it can be treated!

But disappointment, dissolution and despair are far harder to treat.

I have cancer, but cancer does not have me! In order for cancer to have me it will have to follow me beyond the grave! And it cannot! It can take my cells, but it cannot take myself! And it can have my hair, but it cannot have my heart!  It can claim my breasts, but it can never claim my spirit!!!!!
